Studies on the Rural Tourism Marketing Made in Romania’s Villages through Traditional and Gastronomical Events
By Maria Stoian
The aim of this paper is to bring in the foreground some of the Romanian rural tourism achievements during its existence. Before the celebration of two decades of existence we will draw the line and we will attempt to analyze the progress made throughout this period. One of the rural tourism promotion strengths, much less supported by the national authorities than the mass tourism, has been the way of doing it. Achieving own marketing strategies has made the holidays in the countryside to overcome the barrier of infrastructure shortcomings, at the beginning even the ones in services and staff training. Punctually, we refer to the traditions, customs, agricultural activities, costumes and gastronomical products, which are emphasized instead of being ignored, while everything that signifies the essence of the life in the village is sustained and promoted. One of the initiatives of the Romanian rural tourism and newly established guesthouses was represented by the partnerships initiated in order to support the villages’ significant events organization, each one with different characteristics and particularities. As conclusions for these actions are the results obtained over the time, as well as the notoriety given to a new movement that appeared in Romania at the end of the XXth century.

Challenges in Tourism Research
By Andreea Fortuna Şchiopu
Delivering on the objectives of a research project undertaken in the tourism sector can be challenging, especially on account of the economic and societal changes that the world is going through. Among the critical success factors of a research project one should mention the ability to obtain the necessary funding to support the initiation and implementation of that action and to find the ways to cope with a dinamic, complex and competitive global research environment. The latter could be easily done through association, given the fact that the chances of success could be increased by relying on a collaborative organisation of individuals working together to provide support in finding the accesible sources of funding and the proper ways to collect, evaluate, analyze, organize and disseminate information.

The Role of Higher Education in Developping Human Resources in the Field of Tourism
By Alina Ioana Mihaela Ţăpescu
The present paper aims at a two-fold analysis of the labour market in the Romanian tourism field, both from the point of view of the latter’s particularities – identified in the specialized literature – as well as by means of the data gathered from statistic-running sources pertaining to the main markers which characterize the labour market in this field (the employed population, structure of employed population based on gender, age groups, attained level of education etc.). Moreover, the paper features an outline of the current state of higher education in the field of tourism from the point of view of the university offers and the needs which should be satisfied by the study programs encompassed in the offers. Furthermore, the research comprises a survey-based analysis of how the students enrolled in the masters programs of the Faculty of Commerce within the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest perceive the quality and relevance of the courses they are attending, as well as their opinion on a future career in tourism from the point of view of motivational factors which may positively or negatively influence the choice of this professional field. Taking into consideration the unquestionable importance of human capital in providing high-quality services in tourism, the training of human resources in this field should be maintained at the highest of standards, all the while acknowledging the key-role of higher education.
